| On Monday, September 22, 2008 Mobile Hydrostatic Body Fat Test Clinic will be at TCC to offer quick, convenient, and accurate body composition testing. Testing time will take approximately 30 minutes. Space is limited to the first 40 people prepaid.
Hydrostatic weighing (sometimes referred to as underwater weighing) is considered the Gold Standard for determining body fat percentage. It has been proven to be the most accurate method (1.5% compared with 3.0% for calipers). This method uses Archimedes principle which states that when a body is submerged in water, there is a buoyant counter force equal to the weight of the water which it displaced. Because fat is lighter than water and therefore floats, while muscle, bone and other tissue are not, and thus sink, the weight of a person in water gives an accurate measurement of the amount of fat a person has and thus their body fat percentage.
