This course teaches you how to design and instruct Level 1 (Essential and Intermediate) Reformer workouts in group or personal training settings for a range of clients. While IR may be taken prior to IMP, we recommend completing IMP first. In addition to the general course objectives, you will learn:

• Effective use of the Reformer to enhance torso stability and strength, peripheral extremity conditioning, joint stability, flexibility, balance and coordination

• How to develop programs for personal and group classes

• Essential, Intermediate and Power workouts

• Effective communication, visual skills, verbal cueing and imagery for performance enhancement and client motivation

• Modifications for specific body types, postural issues and conditions

• Theory behind exercise modification development and usage

• Exercise layering related to effective program design

• 129 exercises plus multiple modifications

Prerequisites:

3 years (minimum teaching movement or fitness

Working knowledge of functional anatomy

30 hours of pilates classes/workouts

Duration:

50 hours of instruction

Plus:

10 hours observation

40 hours physical review

25 hours practice teaching

Cancer Exercise Specialist

The workshop includes 2 full days of training, the nationally recognized Cancer Exercise Specialist Handbook, the Advanced Qualification Examination, 1.7 ACE, 1.6 NASM CEU's and/or 15 credit hours, and a 2-year listing on our online Cancer Exercise Specialist Directory!

The Cancer Exercise Specialist Advanced Qualification was developed for health and fitness professionals seeking to attain a higher level of mastery and work with cancer patients in post-operative exercise and quality of life programs. Following the workshop, there will be a take-home examination that candidates must pass in order to receive their advanced qualification.

The course consists of the following:

  • Exercise implications and contraindications for 25 types of cancer, surgery, reconstruction, and treatments
  • Exercise protocol for Pilates, Yoga and Personal Trainers
  • Breast reconstruction and contraindications to exercise
  • Preventing and identifying lymphedema
  • Cancer related pain
  • mental and physical fatigue during cancer treatment
  • Patient/client assessments: health history, liability release, medical clearance, goniometric measurements, postural assessment, and anatomical measurements for lymphedema identification
  • Working with the medical professionals -  Marketing and promotion strategies
  • Adapting your equipment to various cancer procedures to avoid injury and maximize benefits

What is it?

A three-day certification workshop including lectures, practical demonstration and written and practical exams. The curriculum includes:

  • Understanding Wellness; Health Screening and Risk Appraisal
  • Anatomy and Kinesiology
  • Exercise Physiology
  • Injury Prevention
  • Nutrition fundamentals and weight management
  • Special populations and medical considerations
  • Listening, leadership and motivational skills
  • Exercise program desgin; Weight Room/Weight Training Skills
  • Fitness assessment testing procedures (3-minute step test, sit and reach, push-up/abdominal crunch, body composition screening with skin-fold claiper measurement)

Who is it for?

For the aspiring and experienced fitness professional working on-on-one with exercise client.

  • Early registration and pre-study is required
  • Weight Room.Weight Training experience is strongly recommended

LES MILLS BODYJAM

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

BODYJAM™ is the cardio workout where you are free to enjoy the sensation of dance. This program is designed for currently and previously certfied personal trainers who feel confident in their basic knowledge of Exercise Physiology, Anatomy and Kinesiology.
